Lost Love 流水落花
An intimate chronicle of temporary family and permanent love
The film tells the story of a foster family in Hong Kong, exploring themes of family, loss, and resilience through the experiences of a couple who open their home to foster children over the years. In the end, it's all about letting go.
Drawing from real foster families' experiences, the film captures the quiet, accumulating weight of loving children you know you must eventually release. It observes small, everyday moments-meals, bedtime routines, goodbyes-where love and loss coexist. It's about the courage to care deeply without ownership.
The Chinese title, 流水落花 (Flowing Water, Fallen Flowers), carries a deeper meaning: water carries flowers to better places, just as time always carries us to where we need to be. It's a reminder that letting go isn't loss-it's trust in the natural flow of life.
The film earned significant recognition, winning Best Actress for Sammi Cheng at the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards and Best Original Film Song. It also received nominations at the 37th Golden Rooster Awards for Best Directorial Debut and Best Low-to-Medium Budget Feature Film, and won a Special Mention at the 25th Udine Far East Film Festival (White Mulberry Award).
